This week we were joined by recently appointed under 19 Development Team manager, Clive Davies. Here's what he had to say...

on his time at the club so far…
I have really enjoyed my start at the club, meeting the players, coaches, and staff. I have been made very welcome on my arrival. For me it’s been a long start to get going with a September start to the season, however I feel we have prepared as well as we can. We needed to recruit new players into the team due to the shift in players that must step up to the reserves due to age.

on his experience and how that has helped the squad…
Having spent a few seasons in the Welsh Premier and Tier 2, you understand how hard you must work harder to be better than your opponent. It’s a results-based industry and places on the European stage is at stake. I have worked with some very good managers which open your eyes to the game tactically and the discipline required to work as a team. Since being at the club we have worked on fitness, outside of training and the tactical side game on the training field. The lads are keen to learn and improve their game, we are in a tough league and as we were champions last season, teams will raise their game against us every week.

on his squad and those involved in senior squads…
Some of the players have made an immediate impact and have caught the eyes of the coaches in the reserves and firsts. However, I know that there is a lot more talent in the team and a heavy number will go on to represent the 1st team eventually.

on the opening two games of the league…
The first two games were challenging in lots of aspects. Winning 0-6 in our first game against a physical Brymbo side, we needed to ensure we didn’t let that performance fog how our season would go. We played really well, but knew the 2nd would bring a different challenge, which it did. We then had to get a result by digging deep and playing with more grit.

on the collective ambitions for the season…
It’s a tough one to answer, I have never managed an under 19s team where on a game day your plans could go as your holding midfielder gets called up to the reserve squad. The collective ambition is to do well in the league, whilst producing players to step up to the next level when they are ready. At this age group there are more success opportunities, league title, cups or getting a big number of the lads to the next level. I know if we apply ourselves correctly, we can achieve good things as a club as well as a team and I look forward to the challenge
