We’ve been celebrating the success of both the Development Team and Veterans who have both achieved a league and cup double this season.
The Development Team were crowned Flintshire Youth League Champions on Sunday, adding to the Queensferry Sports FJL Under 19 Challenge Cup trophy they lifted in mid-April!
The squad were coming into Sunday’s scheduled game against Llysfaen in fine league form, knowing a win would see them crowned Champions. With Llysfaen informing at the eleventh hour they would unfortunately be unable to fulfil the fixture, the celebrations started earlier than expected!
A great achievement from the Development Team, making it back to back league titles!
The Vets also built on their success of last season to complete ‘the double’ by winning the North East Wales Veterans Division title and the NEWFA Vets Cup with a hard fought victory over Queens Park in the final. A ‘double double’ given their league and cup winning exploits of last season.
The league title was wrapped up with a home victory over CPD Caerwys three weeks ago, but they were intent on going yet another season unbeaten as their campaign drew to a close. This feat was achieved with a final day victory on Sunday, which saw the Vets extended their two-year unbeaten run; a draw against Brickfield being the only blemish on an otherwise 100% record.
The management team of Mark Evans and John Cannon had their say;
ME: “We’re extremely proud of the commitment that the lads have shown throughout what has been a tough season with the increased number of games. Their desire to ‘get over the line’ and win games is a credit to them.”
JC: “It has been another amazing season for the Vets again this year. After going unbeaten and winning the double last season we knew how difficult it would be this year. We are lucky enough to have a great squad of lads who have stepped up to every challenge once again this season. But, to win the league and cup double again, winning 20 and drawing one, has been remarkable and something we as a team are extremely proud of. Thanks again to all those from HRFC who have helped and all those involved in another tremendous season.”
A huge congratulations to both sides for their achievements this season.
